Kevin Harvick 'disgusted' with team's performance after finishing 4th
You likely read the headline, so we’ll just get right to it. Kevin Harvick was not a happy man after he finished 4th at New Hampshire on Sunday.
“I’m disgusted to tell you the truth,” Harvick said after the race. “It’s the same thing every week. We just make mistake after mistake and until we clean that up we don’t have a chance to win races putting ourselves in a hole every time we make a mistake. It sucks because the cars are plenty fast, but we are just not executing.”
Harvick’s referring to his team’s performance on pit road, which, as you can guess, wasn’t very good on Sunday. Harvick had one of the race’s fastest cars, but at a place like New Hampshire, track position is at a premium. And Harvick lost track position on pit road quite a bit throughout the race.
“We just have to perform better,” Harvick said. “We under execute as a team on a weekly basis and got to do a better job. The Jimmy John’s Chevrolet cars are always fast, but we always do something wrong.”
Mind you, these comments are coming from a driver who ended up notching his eighth top-five finish of the season and leads the points by 14 over Brad Keselowski.
But when you win the 2014 Sprint Cup championship and accrue 63 top-10 finishes in your first 91 races at Stewart-Haas Racing, the expectations are understandably high.
“It’s really going to have to come from the top,” Harvick said about changes and fixes to the team’s performance. “I mean they are going to have to clamp down and there is no way we can win a championship like this unless they straighten some of this stuff out.”
Stewart-Haas Racing swapped the crews of Harvick and Tony Stewart before the 2014 Chase as Harvick was heading towards the Chase and Stewart was a nonfactor.
